Dr Ifeanyi Ubah Saga: United Labour Congress Appeals To Federal Government To Embrace Dialogue

The United Labour Congress (ULC) has appealed to the Federal Government to embrace dialogue in resolving the face-off between the management of Capital Oil and Gas and Department of State Services (DSS). The face-off is over alleged illegal sale of petroleum products.

Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, the Chairman of Lagos State Council of the union, made the appeal in a statement in Lagos on Friday.

Korodo said that the products in question were stored in the company’s tank farm by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

He said that attention of the union had been drawn to the impending jobs losses in the company due to the lingering impasse between Federal Government and Capital Oil management.

“We are aware of government’s promise of jobs to Nigerians during the electioneering campaigns with the desire to tackle unemployment once and for all. “But what we are witnessing now is a departure from the promise the ruling government made to the good people of this great country in terms of job creation,” he said.

Korodo said that the union condemned the continuous incarceration of chief executive of Capital Oil over unproven allegations that he committed a crime punishable by death for diverting over 80 million litres of petrol amounting to N11billion.

“Much as we do not support acts of corruption and diversion of public funds, we are of the opinion that government should not deny citizens the right of free movement and space to prove their innocence.

“The continuous detention of Chief Ifeanyi Ubah without having been found guilty of the purported offence by a court of law is to cripple the company.

“We appeal to Federal Government to negotiate the terms of settlement and save the jobs of 2,000 workers including tanker drivers and other auxiliary workers within the depot.

“Records have it that the company employed over 2,000 workers and this to us in ULC, Lagos State Council, a big support to the Federal Government’s quest for jobs creation,” he said. Korodo urged the Federal Government to release Ubah to enable him have unlimited access to proper legal assistance and defend himself.

THE PDP ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARY ELECTION WAS A SHAM AND COMPLETE ILLEGALITY

As a loyal member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one who stood by the party through thick and thin, my love for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cannot be questioned. My immense contributions to the cause of the party, most especially during the last Presidential and General elections through the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria cannot be overemphasized. In the same vein, anyone who has a thorough understanding of Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah can attest to the fact that I am a man of uncommon national vision and passion for the development of the nation and general good of the masses, especially the less privileged. It is the burden of the developmental needs of Anambra state and my burning desire to meet and exceed the expectations of Anambrarians that has relentlessly driven me to contest for the Governorship position of Anambra state. However, until constitutional amendments are made, one is constrained to contest for such position under a party structure. In my case, ...

THE HANDSHAKE ACROSS THE NIGER A MOVEMENT LONG OVERDUE

Before the Nigeria independence, the Yorubas has been the greatest host of the Igbo tribes including their business empires and white collar hobs. Since I was born, I have never heard of any communal clash between this two great ethnic groups as their relationship keeps on soaring to greater height. Many of us with short historical knowledge, never knew that the independence we enjoy together as a nation was struggled and attained on a platter of The handshake across the Niger. How do I mean? The N.C.N.C that struggled and attained Nigeria's independence in 1960 was founded in 1944 by Late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Herbert Olayinka Badmus Macaulay, Akintola and Michael Okpara and Nwafor Orizu of blessed memories , It was a combination of both ethnic effort of Yorubas, Midwest of Chief Okotie Eboh, Micheal Okpara and Nnamdi Azikiwe that made our independence possible. As at 1957, Nigeria was due for independence and the West and East were fully prepared but what delayed the independence ...
